Knife Crime Awareness (KNIFEbrent)

Description
[This course will take you about 1 hour 40 minutes to complete.]

When we think about knife crime, we may focus on crimes carried out in the streets by gangs of young people causing serious and sometimes fatal injuries. These are the crimes we hear about in the news. In fact, knife crime is a broader term. The crime can also include carrying a bladed or sharp weapon without a legitimate reason, or using it as a threat or to cause injury. Knife crime is thought to be increasing in the UK, and young people are particularly vulnerable.

It is important to understand why a child in your care might want to carry a knife and the risks involved, both to themselves and others. You will need to know how to talk to them about it and the best ways to keep them safe.

In this course, you will learn:
- What knife crime is, and how common it is
- The law in relation to knife crime
- How to spot the signs of knife crime
- How to talk to your foster child about knife crime
- How to administer basic first aid if your foster child is injured.
